RG-S6520-64CQ vs RG-S6580-48CQ8QC
Compared products: RG-S6520-64CQ, RG-S6580-48CQ8QC
Overview
Both are Ruijie fixed data-center switches. One is a full 64 × 100G faceplate. The other keeps dense 100G and adds eight 400G ports. Neither is universally better.

Positioning
- RG-S6520-64CQ: maximize 100G density when the optic plan is 100G only.
- RG-S6580-48CQ8QC: keep 100G access density while lighting 400G fabric ports.
Full procurement comparison
| Field | RG-S6520-64CQ | RG-S6580-48CQ8QC |
|---|---|---|
| Network role | Data Center | Data Center |
| Faceplate | 64 × 100GE QSFP28 | 48 × 100GE DSFP + 8 × 400GE QSFP-DD |
| 100G density | 64 ports | 48 ports |
| 400G availability | None on this faceplate | 8 × 400GE |
| Separate uplink row | None — all ports are 100G | 400G ports are part of the faceplate |
| Switching capacity | 12.8 Tbps | 16.0 Tbps |
| Forwarding rate | 4482 Mpps | 5350 Mpps |
| PoE | Non-PoE | Non-PoE |
| Power redundancy | 1+1 hot-swap | 1+1 hot-swap |
| Fan redundancy (authorized data) | 2+1 | 5+1 |
| Dimensions (authorized data) | 442 × 450 × 88.1 mm (2U class) | 442 × 700 × 44 mm (confirm depth) |
| Weight (authorized data) | ~20 kg | 16.2 kg |
| Operating temp (authorized data) | 0°C to 45°C | 0°C to 40°C |
Do not declare a winner from Tbps alone. 16.0 Tbps does not help a design that will never light a 400G port.
Optics implications
64CQ quotes QSFP28 100G optics across the faceplate. 48CQ8QC needs both 100G DSFP optics and QSFP-DD 400G optics for the eight fabric ports. Write both on the RFQ. Breakout, if any, must name the peer device.
When 64 × 100G is preferable
- Every required port is 100G.
- You need sixty-four of those ports on one fixed switch.
- No 400G optic budget exists in this phase.
- You can accept a 2U class envelope.
When mixed 100G / 400G is preferable
- 400G ports are already on the design drawings.
- 48 × 100G plus 8 × 400G matches the optic map better than 64 × 100G.
- You can accept a deep 1U chassis after checking rails.
Migration considerations
If 400G is six months away, say so on the RFQ and ask sales whether staging 64CQ now or 48CQ8QC now is cleaner for your optic contracts. Do not invent a universal migration path.
RFQ questions
FAQ
Is higher capacity always better?
No. Match faceplate to the optic plan first.
Can I use QSFP28 optics in the 400G ports?
Only if the port mode and optic are confirmed for that PID — ask on the RFQ; do not assume.
Which related 32×100G PID should I compare?
CE8850-32CQ-EI when density stays near thirty-two 100G ports.
