Complete RFQ inputs cut clarification rounds. Use the questions below as a checklist before you submit.
What information should I send when requesting a switch quote?
Include exact manufacturer PID, quantity, preferred condition, role (access/PoE, leaf, or core), port/uplink/optic needs, PoE load if applicable, stacking or chassis-module needs, and site constraints that affect PSU or airflow.
Why is the exact PID required instead of a family name?
Family names (for example “Catalyst 9300” or “S5732”) hide port count, PoE, uplink modules, and software suffix. Quotes need the manufacturer model that matches the faceplate you want.
What PoE details matter on campus RFQs?
Share endpoint types and an estimated watt budget, or state Non-PoE. PSU class and PoE budget must match the PID—see C9300-24P vs C9300-48P-A for a density/PSU example.
What optic details matter on leaf RFQs?
Server-facing speed, fabric uplink speed, optic or DAC/AOC type, reach, and breakout needs. Use the leaf buying guide pre-quote questions.
Should I mention stacking or chassis modules?
Yes when relevant. Closet stacks need member count and cables; chassis platforms need line-card / module intent. Leaving this blank forces assumptions.
Where do I submit the request?
Use the RFQ form. For class selection help first, read Campus PoE vs Data Center Leaf.
